What height is best for you for your adjustable standing desk?

Part of the benefits of standing desks are that overall, they can be more comfortable and better for the body than sitting desks. But that’s only true if your adjustable standing desk is adjusted the right way! There are a few rules of thumb to keep in mind when setting up your adjustable standing desk.

Keyboard height - your keyboard height should be such that your elbows are at almost right angles. Some people also like their keyboard to be at a bit of an angle too. This is mostly personal preference but preference dictated by how you feel over the long term - what we are trying to avoid are hunched shoulders and droopy backs.

Monitor height - ideally your monitor is separate from your keyboard (not always the case as so many of us are working on laptops now). The height of your monitor is best set with your eyes at about middle distance of the monitor. Most of all you do not want to be looking up at your monitor - that’s too high and is tiring for your neck.

If you’ve got a laptop, your options are limited. A slight down angle for your keyboard might be most comfortable, and adjust your monitor angle accordingly.

Above all no matter what set up you’ve got - take frequent moving breaks. And watch your posture too when standing or sitting - a little awareness goes a long way!
